Cedar Point Campus
We are pleased to announce our second location at the intersection of Grant Road and Cedar Point. We are proud of the beautiful, shaded playground and large inviting rooms. Children 18-months old through Pre-k may enroll at our Cedar Point school.
The Woods at Cedar Point provides the same superior education, excellent staff, and quality curriculum for which the Woods School is known. Teachers meet and plan together to keep communication open between the schools ensuring the same curriculum and objectives are being met.
Our two-year-old curriculum provides hands-on-learning activities. Art and music are an important part of each day. Letter puppets introduce the children to the alphabet. We encourage a sense of independence and self-esteem growth. Specialty days are included during the year to enhance our curriculum. The 18-month-old class follows the two-year-old curriculum in a slightly scaled down version.
The three-year old curriculum teaches the children based on a topical study. The alphabet letter, color, number, and topic of the week are all incorporated together in the planning of activities. Specialty days throughout the year add to the excitement of learning. Math activities are action-oriented and use hands-on materials to teach sorting, ordering, size awareness, shapes, and numbers. Handwriting without Tears is introduced as an excellent beginning to writing development. Music and Art are also included in a fun-filled week for our three-year old children.
Pre-kindergarten classes build on the three-year old program adding a strong phonetic emphasis for a supportive "pre-reading foundation." An introduction of classic literature through the Happily Ever After reading series teaches letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and some sight words. Children participate in hands-on-activities, mathematic reasoning, problem-solving experiences, and manipulatives as they discover the power of math. Field trips and informative presentations are integrated into the pre-kindergarten social studies and science curriculum. The Get Set for School Program, "Handwriting without Tears," uses singing, music, coloring, building, and play to help children develop handwriting skills.
